Bio

Joel Sobel is a Staff Attorney/Duffy Fellow at the Homeless Advocacy Project (HAP) in Philadelphia.  Joel provides direct legal representation to individuals, families, and veterans experiencing homelessness on a wide array of civil legal issues.  HAP's outreach model aims to reduce the frequency and duration of homelessness in the city.  Joel previously worked at the public defenders office, specifically in a program designed to reduce recidivism for those suffering from substance abuse issues by linking them to treatment and case management services. Joel received his B.A. in history from Pennsylvania State University. He then attended Temple University Beasley School of Law in the evenings while working full-time during the day.  Joel graduated cum laude and was a Rubin Public Interest Law Honor Society Fellow. HAP is the only legal services organization in Philadelphia dedication solely to providing broader advocacy and direct services to those experiencing homelessness in the city.
